The Living Room - Pango Ao

Challenging the current situation of the Auckland Museum, the Living Room is an architectural addition to the current scheme which intends to bring appeal to the Maori culture and heritage of the Museums current collection. Involving the concepts of Va , Rangi, Papa and also taking into account the spatial formalities of the wharenui to create a living threshold for interaction of the old and the new in the current museum scheme. The design process revolved around drawing as a generator for space and as a tool for developing spatial thinking throughout the project. Starting with the design of an internal 'living room', a visible storage space accessible by the public, and culminating in the design of a large external extension of space for the museum in accordance with their 50-year plan
